Yeah, I said it. I love the Oakland Raiders and consider myself a Raiders fan but JaMarcus Russell is NOT playing to his potential. Of course, I’m using his contract where he received a guaranteed $31 Million as an unproven rookie two seasons ago to gauge his potential.

JaMarcus Russell can barely move the ball down the field and put the Raiders in scoring position. This should be completely unacceptable to Al Davis and the entire Raiders organization.

Last week on Monday Night Football, JaMarcus played very poorly. I didn’t trip too hard as the Raiders played fairly well overall. But seeing that the Raiders consistently struggle to get in the end zone infuriates me. As a former quarterback, this bothers me greatly. I’m not saying that I can play better but someone should be given a chance to see if they can put points on the board.

In fact, I’ll go even further and say that if the Raiders do not make it to the playoffs, Al Davis is going to have to make the tough decision to trade JaMarcus Russell. This will be nearly impossible since JaMarcus is having a tough time raising his NFL stock due to lack of winning and lack of putting touchdowns on the big board.

I’m going to give JaMarcus a little more slack and a few more games but if he doesn’t start lifting Oakland into a winning situations, he should be benched even with a huge $31 Million guarantee. It’s only right. The NFL is about winning, period. Nothing less, nothing more. Put points on the board and move the chains. Today, the Oakland game is even blacked out in the San Francisco Bay Area and no one can watch it because the arena is not being sold out. If Al Davis was able to put a winning product on the field, the seats would fill up and the game would be aired on television. The Raiders must do better and do better now.
