I first became a fan and customer of Carol’s Daughter when it was a mail order business back in 1998. My wife at the time was always at natural hair care shows and we stumbled upon Carol’s Daughter at an event in Atlanta. I tried their shea butter lotion and body oil products as well as their bath products and loved them.

I would always order them since they only had opened one store up in Harlem and I was living in California. I ordered by products as soon as they started to run low. When I saw them opening up in Atlanta, I was ecstatic. Finally, I could go to the store and buy their products. Trust me when I tell you that you will never, ever be disappointed with Carol’s Daughter products from skincare to haircare and beyond.

Since labels are not making a ton of money off of full album sales anymore, they have started to go after making money on artists performances and merchandising. Back in the day, labels primarily made the bulk of the money from selling records/cds but in the digital rights age, these sales are not as much as they used to be.

In 2009 and 2010, now everyone wants a piece of the artist money. The manager wants 360 rights and the label wants 360 rights on the artist properties. Does this even leave the artist with money? If the label and management is splitting money on live gigs, how much money is really on the table for the artist?

If you are an artist with a buzz, be careful of these 360 deals. Get a lawyer who represents you only. Make sure your performance fees are outlined clearly in your contract and the splits are clearly outlined. Do not let a lawyer fast talk you into a contract where you are making nothing on performing.

Be careful of everyone around you in the music industry. There are more money hungry people around you than people who care about your well being and making sure that you are eating, clothed, and have your house and car for the long term. Be mindful, not scared. Move cautiously and always protect your interests.

During the holiday season, one can’t help but think about the incomparable Nat King Cole singing holiday Christmas Carols. His songs make you want to roll up to the fireplace, grab a nice hot cup of eggnog, tea, or latte, and just chill and relax.

My mother would be making dinner while it would be snowing outside in Illinois. Family would be coming over and Nat King Cole would be on the phonograph. This man was and is truly the meaning of Christmas.

The U.S. Open Administrator ruled today that Serena Williams would be fined $82,500 for blowing up and getting angry over a call with a line judge at The U.S. Open. She could also face being banned from that tournament if she has any type of outburst like that over the course of the next two years. The fine is the largest fine in U.S. Open history and double that of the next largest fine.

This comes on the heels of Serena Williams launching her book and winning Woman Of The Year Awards by Glamour Magazine. If Serena has another major offense in any Grand Slam tournament, she will be fined $175,000. Serena Williams is an 11 Time Grand Slam singles tournament winner.
