Despite USC having a downturn to their season, freshman quarterback Matt Barkley has shown signs of being a pro style quarterback even at 18 years young. If he were a junior or senior, he could easily be in the conversation of the NFL top 5 quarterback picks in the 2010 NFL Draft.
As an evaluator of quarterback at NFL combines, I rate this kid extremely high and put him up there with Terrell Pryor, Jimmy Clausen, and Sam Bradford in terms of talent. He stands tall in the pocket. He is poised. He is confident and most of all, he makes the right decisions at the right time and can check off receivers and read defenses very well at such a young age.
This is very tough to do at the USC level and the style of offense that they play. I rate Matt Barkley with 5 stars for talent and readiness.
