The Manning Passing Academy

The Manning Passing Academy With Peyton Manning, Father Archie Manning, Eli Manning

In case you happen to know of some top level high school athletes, you may want to send them to the Manning Passing Academy. The academy is basically the best passing league instruction in the United States run by Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Cooper Manning, and their father Archie Manning.

The brainchild of Archie Manning, the patriarch of the Manning family, the event has become a can’t miss camp for aspiring college and professional quarterbacks, wide receivers, tight ends and running backs. The event sells out early every year. Of course, the camp features a legacy unmatched anywhere–three NFL quarterbacks from the same family. Peyton Manning and Eli Manning are prime attractions and prime teachers at the camp while Cooper Manning, the oldest of the Manning brothers, plays a huge role as well. “Peyton, Eli and Cooper are their full-time every year. They are totally invested in the event,” said Archie.

This past summer, the Manning Passing League had probably the best quarterback camp in its 15 year history. They had in attendance Ryan Mallett (Arkansas), Andrew Luck (Stanford), Christian Ponder (Florida State), Jordan Jefferson (LSU), Greg McElroy (Alabama), Kellen Moore (Boise State), Andy Dalton (TCU) and Jerrod Johnson (Texas A&M).

If you have great high school or college Quarterbacks, Receivers, or Wide Receivers, save your money and send them to this camp. Undagroundmilli approved.

What Music Industry Contract You Should NOT Sign

If you sign this type of deal, it means that you do NOT get publishing checks from ASCAP or BMI and ASCAP will turn around and pay the furnishing company who owns your music publishing.

Share

First of all, being signed is not always a good thing in the music industry. As everyone knows, the music industry is in an upheaval and turned upside down like most industries. We know this. As an artist, is it still good to try to look for a recording contract? Possibly. This depends upon your situation.

Obviously, most recording labels will not sign anyone who doesn’t have the proverbial “buzz” that everyone seeks. But let’s say in this case that you have a true buzz. You have fans and built your music on Myspace or YouTube and now you have record labels courting you. This is a good thing only if you know the type of contract to sign.

If anyone presents you with a contract that says “furnishing company” anywhere in the text this is a problem. Many scandalous companies and managers have artists sign “furnishing contracts” to them. What does this mean? What is a furnishing company?

A furnishing company will furnish talent to another company. There are times and real world cases where one management company furnishes talent to another furnishing company who in turn furnishes talent to the label. Ultimately, each furnishing company is a middleman designed to rob and take every single ounce of your money as an artist.

The hip hop world is riddled with these type of managers and contracts and people prey on unsuspecting artists to sign them to this type of bogus deal. The furnishing company will sign the artist and have the artist sign away their publishing to the furnishing company. If you sign this type of deal, it means that you do NOT get publishing checks from ASCAP or BMI and ASCAP will turn around and pay the furnishing company who owns your music publishing.

My advice? Get a lawyer and have someone who really understands the music business review your contract before you sign anything to any manager or any furnishing company. Also, be VERY careful of the lawyer. Many lawyers are connected and will also gladly take your money and your publishing. This business is a shark oriented business. They will eat you and throw your carcass on the beach when finished. Believe that. If you are at the point where you really need consultation, I truly suggest speaking to Wendy Day of Rap Coalition and save your career.

Facebook Gift Cards in Target?

I was in Target shopping the other day with my mini-me and over near the camera display and video games I see these Facebook credit card looking things.

MIAMI - SEPTEMBER 05: Karin Sauer, a Target team member, unwraps Facebook Credits gift cards as she places them on display at a Target store on September 5, 2010 in Miami, Florida. Beginning today, people can buy the cards which will allow them to purchase virtual goods for Facebook related games. (Photo by Joe Raedle/Getty Images)

I was in Target shopping the other day with my mini-me and over near the camera display and video games I see these Facebook credit card looking things. I was like HUH? In a brilliant move, Facebook is now at retailers all over the country dishing out these gift cards so that people can come back and use them as credits when they log onto Facebook and play all those Mafia Wars, Farmville, and other games.

This is a brilliant way to combine online and offline retail together to make even more money. It just shows you to continue to think outside of the box and not have any limitations when it comes to building online business. Facebook is of course a prime example of things going super well but even for small business, we can incorporate these lessons and build our businesses online and offline.

I inquired to the Target employee of how these cards work. I can buy a Facebook card if I do not like buying and putting my credit card online via Facebook directly. I can then log onto Facebook and use these credits to play and release more items/levels or whatever when playing Farmville or Mafia Wars. So, the real deal is that Facebook is looking out for those who do not trust putting a credit card online which is a LOT of people.

Caught Out With Alex Rodriguez?

If you’re going to the gym in NYC with Alex Rodriguez, do you NOT expect papparrazi to be all over you?

Okay, this is just foolishness. If you’re going to the gym in NYC with Alex Rodriguez, do you NOT expect papparrazi to be all over you? Alex Rodriguez is the poster boy for New York City. If Alex invites you to go to the gym, you already know what time it is. Why is this young lady trying to dip and dodge the cameras as if she didn’t know they would be all over them once they left the gym and Starbucks?

You’re with A-Rod! Get your hair done, your nails done, have the right outfit, and KNOW this: you will be blasted all over the media from New York City to Hong Kong in 24 hours. Prepare for it or don’t go with Alex.

Networking 101 – How To Increase Your Network

Do not wait for specific networking events. Get out of any type of shell that you may be in and talk to people.

I was talking to a friend yesterday at lunch and we were discussing the client laying people off. This isn’t always true but I noticed a difference in the attitude of some people being laid off. A few of the folks being laid off have a great attitude while some of those being laid off feel like pure crap and feel like a ton of bricks have hit them.

Here’s what I believe someone should do during or prior to any type of layoff.

Get to know everyone in the building and I mean everyone. Networking starts with your everyday. It starts with talking to people, saying hi, chopping it up, and just talking to people about their lives. I do NOT believe that networking is done in a vacuum and at specific networking events. That never truly works because everyone has an expectation of making something happen.

Networking is done when you see someone and talk to someone when they are not expecting anything from the conversation. Believe it or not, small talk IS networking. The people who are dealing well with this particular layoff knew MANY people in the building. They know the security guards, they know people in other departments, they know people in other buildings, they know the Starbucks workers, and they know the janitors. They treat everyone with respect so when the layoffs came, people from cross departments reached out to them to help them get another project quickly.

Do not wait for specific networking events. Get out of any type of shell that you may be in and talk to people. Take them to a casual lunch. Go get coffee with a co-worker or casual friend and just talk about life in general. This is the true path to building your network.
