How To Measure Success

I was sitting around watching The Oakland Raiders vs. Dallas Cowboys game tonight on Monday Night Football and was digging into my website metrics and measurements. I use a site that measures my real traffic and separates bogus robots from real human beings who come to my site. They then certify the traffic on your website.

This led me to thinking about how to measure and certify success and can this be done? I believe that it can be done in the same manner that the site that measures and analyzes my website and traffic does it. You first measure where you’re at today. This can be any unit of measure depending upon what you quantify as success. Is it weight loss, weight gain, money gain, better job, more income, getting faster, building more muscle, whatever. Where do you stand right now, this very moment with what you are measuring?

Once you’ve established this, you can create a baseline. The baseline tells us what’s happening today and then we take the goal of where we want to be and this is what we will measure. So, we know the today, we know the goal, and now we need to create the action plan or daily plan to get to the goal. This is what we will measure every single day to determine if we are on track or off track. If we get off track, we have to do whatever it takes to get back on track and aiming at the success once again.

If you can get to the point where the action becomes second nature, this is where you can become certified once you achieve your goal and your plan. Becoming certified means completion and it means that we have some measure of that completion against the baseline where we started. Get after it. You can do it. Baseline it, take action, complete it, measure it, rinse and repeat. Good luck.
