I knew Russell Wilson would win the starting job of the Seattle Seahawks quarterback. I knew in the NFL Draft that he would be one of the best players taken despite very little interest and people focusing on his size. His poise, confidence, and leadership skills have never been in question and I never cared that he was 5’11. He has what is immeasurable and now Pete Carroll is being introduced to that as well: HEART!
No one can measure a man’s heart when it comes to football. It’s the most intangible thing to measure but Russell Wilson has it all. The real question to me is financially. They should cut Matt Flynn immediately, who, by the way, was inked to a 3 year $19.5 million deal. This comes to roughly $6,000,000 per year, sort of, while Russell Wilson is making around $600,000 per season. Russell Wilson deserves all the money that Flynn is getting and this is the fundamental flaw in the National Football League when it comes to contracts for players.
The guy making a small amount of money will end up outplaying the guy with the huge contract. If you do this for 3 years, which is the average NFL life, the guy with the small contract loses big, gets hurt or can’t play in 4 years, and the guy with the huge contract is holding a clipboard clocking dough. Epic fail and Russell Wilson’s contract should be re-done immediately.
