5 Things You Must Do In A Great Depression

5 keys to fighting this great recession.

Share

1). Realize that no political figure is going to save you from this situation.

2). Realize that there is no extra money laying around from the United States Government to help you get out of any situation.

3). If you are unemployed, balance your day out by looking for employment for only 2 hours each day and stop.

4). Go workout and get lean and/or fit if you are already lean. Do it and stop making excuses as why you can’t work out.

5). Learn to create your own income, period. Launch some type of service and learn to market it and sell it to others even in this crazy time. I don’t know what it will be for you. You will be the only one who will know what you’re good at. You must find a niche for yourself and you must learn to exploit that niche and not give up.

The Joy of Being Under Estimated

You must learn to use underestimation to your advantage and not get angry when people do not believe in you. Therein, lies your true power and your true destiny.

Share

I see people all the time on Social Media getting bent out of shape because someone doesn’t believe in them or tries to proverbially cut them down at the knees for trying something new. I get it. Most people don’t like to see someone that they know or even love move forward. Success is very humbling for the person who is not achieving it.

Being underestimated and not believed in, however, can be your greatest gift. In sports, it’s easily seen because sports are so black and white. Someone wins, someone loses. When teams underestimate another squad, it’s easy for that team that gets underestimated to come into someone’s arena and blow the other team away. Why? Because the overconfident players that underestimate the other team does NOT prepare as diligently and as hard for people that they do not believe in.

This is good for the person and/or people that are underestimated because it allows you to prepare to win and come in and take the glory while someone else is thinking that you are no good. When people think you are awesome and great, they prepare extra hard for you making it that much tougher to achieve success.

I was recently and have been underestimated in the world of technology for years. This underestimation from others allows me to smoothly move and navigate throughout the corporate world, create proposals, and win business from others who rest on their laurels and underestimate me. If they didn’t underestimate me, trust me, it would be that much tougher to come in and present my business to corporate clients.

You must learn to use underestimation to your advantage and not get angry when people do not believe in you. Therein, lies your true power and your true destiny.

The NFL Lockout Proves That True Wealth Is Passive Income

Run down to a local AXA Advisors office and get a financial advisor whose main mission is to help you protect your income, keep your income, and grow your income in other areas and not just the gridiron.

If the NFL Lockout and work stoppage has proven one thing that I talk about it’s that NFL Athletes do NOT have what I call passive wealth. They earn money by playing football or what some call pay to play. Nearly 95% of the United States workforce gets paid this way: you go to work, you get paid. This holds true for NFL athletes as well. This is why this type of income is earned income and NOT true wealth. True wealth in America is what is called Passive Income meaning that your money is earned whether you go somewhere to earn it or not. Sticking with the NFL theme, selling jerseys would be considered passive wealth if you own the jerseys. An individual or athlete does not need to show up to sell the jersey. The jersey sells without depending upon the person directly. If you are playing professional sports, it behooves you to look into other income streams that are passive and do not need you to lace up your cleats or sneakers to make the money.

Many American professional football players are getting nervous as camps are starting to get missed. Many football players spend more than they make. If they don’t have something else to take the place of the lost income, this can turn into a real problem in the months ahead. Run down to a local AXA Advisors office and get a financial advisor whose main mission is to help you protect your income, keep your income, and grow your income in other areas and not just the gridiron.

Real Leaders Seek Out Leadership Training

The Gerard Spinks Leadership Academy Workshop.

Share

The cornerstone of any real leader is the fact that they always seek out training on how to motivate others around them. The job of a leader or any type of manager is to motivate people to perform at their absolute best. If you are not motivating teams to perform at their best, you are not a true leader.

If you are reading this and you are in any type of leadership role whether it’s as a coach, corporate manager, teacher, church minister, youth minister or whatever you MUST learn how to become an effective leader. The people around you must not have disdain for you or secretly do not want to perform for you.

You MUST check in with those who are charged to perform for you. You MUST find out how they truly feel about you in order to assess where you are. Many people see leadership as a one way street which it is far from being. You are not a leader or even a parent and everyone must simply listen to you. If you believe that you have nothing to learn from your child, students, employees, etc, you are NOT an effective leader.

Again, leadership is learned. You must learn to be a good leader and not take your leadership skills for granted by thinking you have nothing to learn. Learn how to deal with people and you will see your leadership ability increase and multiply.

Does fear run your life?

No, I’m not afraid of life’s injuries. Yes, I will encourage my daughter to always go hard at everything that she does and not think about the potential for injury. I am a true athlete. In fact, the next person’s fear makes me want to go even harder. Are you frozen by fear? The only thing to fear is FEAR itself.

Yesterday was the last day of school for my daughter and the completion of third grade. To celebrate, the school had a roller skating night which we always attend. While in line, a lady to our rear saw a kid come out of the skating rink hobbling due to an injury where she sprained her ankle. The lady behind me was paralyzed with fear and trepidation for her kids as she saw the young girl limping with her parents to their car.

She then starts to get everyone involved in the conversation about how scared she was to let her kids skate. Due to the fact that she saw one kid out of 300 with an injury, she was now afraid of life itself or at least skating for herself and her children. She asked me if I was afraid to let my daughter skate by seeing that injury.

Of course, most of my die hard readers know that I’m beyond beast mode as an athlete and go hard, period from my days as a quarterback. I still go hard everyday in the gym without fail. I said in no way does seeing someone else’s injury make me afraid of life. That’s simply crazy talk I told her. How could me seeing one kid out of a sea of kids get an injury and then be afraid for my child?

No, I’m not afraid of life’s injuries. Yes, I will encourage my daughter to always go hard at everything that she does and not think about the potential for injury. I am a true athlete. In fact, the next person’s fear makes me want to go even harder. Are you frozen by fear? The only thing to fear is FEAR itself.

Business Leadership: Don’t Value Praise – Don’t Value Criticism

The best way to handle yourself and move into a leadership position is to listen to neither. Do not place any value on praise and place no value on criticism.

Share

We live in a highly critical world. A world in which it is far easier to critique someone else than it is to give praise to someone. That’s just the world that we live in. The more you are in a leadership position with tons of responsibility, the easier it is for people to be HIGHLY critical of your leadership. That’s the world we live in.

One thing that I have learned from playing the quarterback position in football and in being a fierce entrepreneur and independent business owner for 15 years is this: do NOT value praise and do NOT value criticism. The person who wants praise but doesn’t want criticism is doomed. The person who listens only to criticism and doesn’t listen to praise is also equally doomed.

The best way to handle yourself and move into a leadership position is to listen to neither. Do not place any value on praise and place no value on criticism. Just remain neutral. I’m not saying be a robot. I’m just saying to listen to both and let both go in one ear and out the other and keep performing and striving to perform at a high level. Your only mission as a leader is to perform well. Everyone elses mission is to critique that performance. Leaders perform, non leaders praise and critique it. Which side are you on?

The Gerard Spinks Leadership Academy: Finding and Filling A Weakness

Typically, opportunity is disguised as a weakness….

Share

I see that most people can’t stand either having a weakness or seeing a weakness in others. I think the opposite from a business opportunity standpoint. Typically, opportunity is disguised as a weakness if you know how to look at the situation. The most important thing to note is that there are weaknesses all around us every single minute of the day. Most people can’t spot them because most people are critical of others’ weaknesses.

I know people in the corporate world who are also critical of their jobs and the company but what if you started looking at it as: how can I make this situation work for me as a business? This thing that one keeps complaining about could possibly be a gold mine if you just put the right pair of glasses on and take a closer look. A weakness will never reveal itself as an opportunity and it will never come screaming for you.

A weakness is usually disguised as something that completely bothers you to the core about a business. Something that you sit back and say “Why do they do that or I wish they did that differently.” Therein lies the solution. Ask yourself what do people need and how can I provide it to them to make it better? This is the beginning of innovation and success.
