“Rappers, skaters and chess players from all over are coming together once again to help the streets gain peace” said HHCF founder Adisa Banjoko. “The economy has been tough on our organization in recent years. That’s why I’m thankful to everybody involved in making this event happen. Gang violence, bullying, alcohol and drug abuse among young people is still a very real problem. We want to show them the benefits of reinforcing their dreams with serious focus and a consistent work ethic.”
Jordan Richter will also give a skate exhibition while teaching teens about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, the All Tribes Universal Zulu Nation will host a B-Boying workshop for young bboys and bgirls.
I have no idea why the only people NOT talking about how hard the economy is are rappers. For some odd reason, rappers seem to be out of touch as the only topic that mainstream rap discusses is how much money they have and how they are going to the strip club to spend it on strippers.
The rest of the world is going through Japan Tsunami’s, the United States launching missiles against Libya, and other political unrest, yet rappers are discussing how much money is in their bank account. Does this strike you as odd? Why are rappers who are typically coming from the same background as me: single black mother on food stamps and welfare; talking about having and spending millions of dollars when gas is nearly $5 per gallon?
I understand the need to balance what is commercial and sells and what doesn’t. Anymore, it doesn’t make sense financially to talk politically while rapping. There’s no money in that. I get it. But, why constantly talk about $100 Million when the average cat is struggling to make it to work and get gas?
Yes, I know. You can’t talk about the everyday man and woman’s life in rap because people don’t want the dude next door. They want what they can’t have. They want the impossible. People feed off of that. But, I still believe that rappers can talk about something of substance while making commercial sellable rap music. You can talk about the common man and woman and still make money. And, on top of that, selling music should not be the one and only thing that you’re interested in with music. This is why rap music has such a bad reputation today. Artist can bridge the gap between their own personal economy and putting out inspirational, soul searching music. It can be done.
On Monday, March 21, 2011, a major Atlanta based rapper will be shooting a video and needs models, dancers, and extras. Please report to Londzell’s Martini Lounge at 1570 Holcomb Bridge Road, Roswell, GA. Please email Fox Booking Agency directly for details at foxbooking@inboxalias.com and contact Ms. Tiffany Price.
R&B Singer Nate Dogg passed away last night in his sleep. Nate Dogg was instrumental in the formation of West Coast hip hop and specifically tracks coming out by Snoop and Warren G in the early-mid 1990′s. I remember going to Long Beach and LA to the Slauson Swap Meet and you could hear nothing but Nate Dogg playing. We will never forget you, Nate Dogg.
If you want a Continental Bentley, Mercedes Benz, or BMW 760, focus your efforts on these two key areas and have the patience and vision to see your project through to completion during the course of the 12-60 months. If you can learn to act while having patience, you will achieve a breakthrough. If you don’t have the time, don’t bother dreaming for the nice homes and nice cars.
Amazing how everyone wants this Continental Bentley and assumes that just by hopping in the studio, the Continental is a natural extension of making music. No, it’s not. Just as in college, you cannot come close to taking and understanding Calculus without pre-requisites of Algebra I, Algebra II, Trigonometry, and Geometry, you cannot get a Bentley before you master marketing of any thing including music. You must master marketing and learn to reach millions, then the next step is to master sales and getting those same people that you reached to actually make a purchase when they see your product.
This is called sales conversion. If you want the Continental Bentley, you must convert the marketing numbers and outreach to sales/buyers. There is simply NO magic bullet to this process and there are NO secrets to it. It takes a concerted effort and a lot of time and focus and practice. The people that have wealth, focus extreme amounts of time in this area. This part of the business can take anywhere from 24-60 months to master. Are there cases where this time was reduced to 3 months? Sure. They are the exception and NOT the rule.
