I was talking to a friend on Twitter @Kandacem, a professional black woman in Atlanta who runs her own Event Management and Consulting business. Kandace posted a Tweet about a man who had an interest in her but she had denied him. He then came back around wanting to influence her to change her mind with material possessions.

This interesting state of events begged the question: Do black men think black women can be easily pursuaded with money? Is this the culture that we live in even during a recession? Do black women hold money as a standard and rule for dating first and foremost and then find out who the person is after that?

As a man, I cannot answer this. I can give my opinion but I really need the ladies to answer. I was once dating someone for awhile and I showered her with gifts because I loved to do that. I loved seeing her face light up when I bought her a Louis Vuitton bag from Lenox or some jewelry from Tiffany’s. I must admit, I was very upset when she broke it off with me and I did accuse her of just wanting gifts and material items from me and accepted that while we were dating. I don’t really think that now because I believe in her heart that she’s a great person and not materialistic. Afterall, it was I that got the gifts. She never asked. And I do NOT think all black women just want to date money. I think the realest sistahs want true love and true relationships and want us to be there for them and find a best friend and mate.

A true relationship is like Michelle Obama and President Obama. She rode with him when his car had holes in the floor board!

I gauge my result of being a great father on one indicator: love of my child. Like her daddy, my daughter is a writer. She wrote the following letter to me. This is priceless and I wouldn’t trade it for anything or any amount of money especially since I never had a father.

Here’s the letter:
“To Daddy: I love my daddy so much. I missed him when he was in California. I loooooovvvve my daddy! When he came back from California, I was so happy that I saw him. I bet he was happy when he saw me too. We were both surprised! I just can’t get it ‘I love my daddy out of my head’! I can’t stop thinking about it.”

The letter then had a picture of my daughter and me going to work with talk bubbles saying I love you from me and her. This is what I measure myself on and what I use as a gauge for success. Nothing less, nothing more. The love of my child is plenty!

First of all, I need to commend all students who are in college. Thank you for your hard work, long study hours, and dedication to improving your life. The one thing that helped me to succeed in college in my junior year was working with my counselor to develop a strategic plan for when I got out of college.

My plans at first were to play football in the National Football League. The feedback from my coaches and league scouts was that I was neither big enough nor fast enough to go to the next level. While this seriously hurt my feelings, I had a counselor who helped me pick myself up mentally and create a plan.

She knew I was smart as I was taking computer courses. She asked me what did I want to do. I didn’t really know but I knew that I really liked developing computer programs in lab. It was challenging and fun to see the computer say things on the screen and take input. I loved it. She then told me that she felt I would do well if I studied and highly focused on computer science and get a job in the Silicon Valley in California.

My first question was how much money does this type of job make. She then showed me a salary guide showing that top engineers can make in excess of $100,000 per year. Say no more, I was focused. You must develop a strategy before you start taking classes. You must come up with a plan and most importantly find out exactly what makes you want to wake up at 7:30 a.m., roll out of bed, and head to an 8 a.m. class.

Find that, and you find your future success. I haven’t truly “worked” at a job in a very long time because I really love developing software and do not see it as a job. I haven’t watched a clock in years because I love what I do. Find this in college and you will fly high forever.

The lack of education for black Americans is at pandemic proportions. More than ever, we are losing footing and ground in the war on education. Let me put it this way, before a corporation hires an African American, they will go sail the seas and head to foreign soil to find a worker before they hire someone in America and especially before they hire an African American worker.

What to do to compete with this in a land full of opportunity as America? Start getting educated and make a commitment to improving yourself from an academic standpoint. What does this mean? This means that you must go seek and find every single program that The Obama Administration has made available to Americans to get re-educated.

Do not believe in the get educated fast and get a job in six months programs. Most of these programs are fake and do not even care whether or not the industry that they are promoting has jobs in it. They care about getting the money that the Government has made available to train you in some silly program where you will never get a job.

You must look at growth industries in America and plan your education around these growth industries. Industries such as Technology, Healthcare, Pharmaceutical, etc will always grow and need American workers. You must be committed to finding these programs, finding what you like to do within these, and going for it and studying to reach your goal. You must not bail on the program and quit halfway through.

From a foreign competitive level, the foreigner will NOT quit. They will do whatever it takes on the planet to get them over to America and leave their country for a better life. Why don’t we see it this way? We must do whatever it takes to leave the ghetto and improve our lives.

The Get Out Of Jail Guide

The first thoughts that you have when you get out of jail are “damn, shit, fuck, gotdamnit, etc.” You start wondering where the hell everybody is and why no one came to see you and why mostly everyone stopped accepting your collect calls. You then go back into “damn, shit, fuck, gotdamnit” and start wondering [...]

You then go back into “damn, shit, fuck, gotdamnit” and start wondering what the hell are you going to do since you have this gotdamn felony on your back.

First of all, here’s what not to do. Do not head straight back to the block that you used to fuck around on and got locked up on. Realize too, that your crew that you thought would be down for you are just not there. They’re not supposed to be there for you like that and even if they are, they will lead you right back to another bid fuckin’ around with them.

Yes, you were in jail for some time and this also put you in a mental jail where your mind does not think that you can change. You now have prison walls in your mind and although you got your dress outs and are out of the physical prison walls, you are still confined in a cell in your mind.

This must change. You must realize that you don’t have to go back to the streets in order to make money. Yes, you have a felony. Yes, that stops you from getting some jobs but we have a cleanup job to do with your mind and you need to believe that you can clean this shit up.

Your freedom lies in your ability to get an education. You must learn. You must not believe that you cannot get educated. It’s the lack of education most likely that got you a bid in the first place. You must stop believing in greed and cash money.

I saw her say that black women take care of the kids, take care of the house, make all the money, and do everything in the world. Wow! So, are black women saying that they simply don’t need a man? Are they playing into the minds and plan of a master plan that is designed to break black people apart? Is she right? Is she wrong?

Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith; a Strong black couple

I think this thought is dangerous. I know she was highly frustrated but even when I’m highly frustrated, I can’t simply abandon hope of our black women and say that I don’t want them anymore. After all, I have a daughter so I can’t just abandon the beautiful black woman. What do y’all think?
