Spinks Industries September 2009 sweeps numbers are in and have just been compiled. The results are staggering and proves that an aggressive marketing plan gets results. We measure results by clicks and actual reads of web stories. We did not factor in impressions. Impressions are valuable because this tells you how many people saw the title but we measure success in actual click throughs to the site and/or reads.

Spinks September 2009 numbers were 10,799 Total Click Throughs

Our WordPress stories received 2,706 click throughs for the month of September. Our Spinks Industries articles received 968 Page Views for the month of September with visitors showing up from the USA, Canada, India, the UK, The Netherlands, Belgium, Singapore, Australia, Indonesia, and Mexico. The average web visitor stayed on our site for 3 minutes and 38 seconds up from 90 days ago where they stayed for an average of 10 seconds.

Our Atlanta Examiner stories were read 6,850 times where the average amount of reads in the Business and Finance section of the newspaper for the month is 1,135. Our Ezinearticles were read 275 times. Our cumulative September ’09 sweeps numbers are an astounding 10,799 total click throughs/reads.

This proves that email marketing is dead and completely ineffective for doing any sort of marketing or brand awareness. In comparison, we delivered 1,000 emails to a highly targeted niche that we service in the Government market. Only 2 people clicked through and read the email. What is the moral? Google Wave will most likely destroy email which is a blessing and a great thing and you must put a full court press team together to get true marketing results.

How To Be A Great Black Father

Tell your child that you love them. Tell them every time you see them. Love heals relationships.

Share

Seeing several events the last couple of days prompted me to take a break from writing about hardcore business and sports to write about being an African-American dad. Two things in particular prompted this: the murder of the young Derrion Albert and watching The Frankie and Neffe show on BET last night where Neffe and her sister were trying to determine if Mr. Randolph was both of their father.

It begged the question: Why is it so tough to be a father for us African-Americans? Why is this rocket science or like putting a man on the moon? Why is it to crazy tough to be an outstanding African-American parent? First of all, it’s not rocket science and the United States put a man on the moon over 40 years ago. If a man can walk on the moon, I can and we can be great black fathers and leaders with a mission to love and protect our youth.

Here’s how:

1). Simply accept that the child is yours. You laid down with the lady to have the baby so man the hell up and accept that the baby is yours. Don’t start weaseling out of it just because you want to claim the lady is some sort of sleaze bag and you never liked her anyway. If she’s pregnant, the baby is yours, period. Live it. Be it. Claim it and stop being a sucka.

2). When the child is a baby, hold the baby, rock the baby. If you’re not in the home with the baby and have beef with the mother, put the beef aside and go get your child. Make the child your priority. Remove excuses. Don’t say you’ve got to go make money so you can’t see your child. Go get your child.

3). Make sure you have an apartment or house and a room for your child. Don’t go get a studio apartment but you have 3 kids out on the planet and no room to have them at your house. Your house should also be your kids’ house. Make room for your kids.

4). Be involved and active with your child and not just your son who shares your name. I’m tired of cats only relating to the boy because the boy is a junior. Relate to your child whether it’s a girl or a boy. Man up. Understand the differences and spend time with your son and your daughter. No excuses. The black race needs no more weak excuses for why you can’t be there and spend time.

5). Take an active and leadership role in your child’s school work.

6). Call your child daily or weekly. I don’t care if you don’t have a phone. Find one. Call your child once a day and check in. If you can’t call once per day, call 3 times per week. Show, by action, that you care and you will improve the confidence of your son and/or daughter. Call them. No excuses. Call. They don’t have to call you and check on you unless you’re an idiot. Your job is to call them and not sit back and wait for them to call you. You’re the adult. They are the child.

7). Every other week, call your child’s teacher and school. Make sure the school knows who you are by name and/or face. Make sure the child sees you come up to the school and make sure your child knows that you care about their well being and about their school. Our children’s self esteem is tied to this. If they know daddy cares, they do better.

8). Don’t neglect your kid because your new lady can’t stand your child’s mother. Who gives a mess about your new lady and her feelings. Your feelings about your child outweigh your new lady. She is NOT priority. Your child is priority. Your new lady’s kids are NOT your priority. Your child is your priority. You take control of your relationship with your child, not some new chick. She can be gone tomorrow. You and your kid will be here until God takes you.

9). Understand your own importance. If you feel terrible about yourself it typically reflects in your relationship with your child. Build your confidence and your self-esteem and that will translate to your child. Man up, stand up, and stay strong. Build a strong relationship with God to build up your confidence.

10). Tell your child that you love them. Tell them every time you see them. Love heals relationships. Love heals all. Give love and be loved and you will have love and happiness to heal a sin sick world. Good luck, black man!

Social Media Specialist

BAM! You are a social media specialist and expert. Now, how to get paid? This is the ever elusive question. People want to hire you to be a social media specialist but NOT pay you until someone clicks on the link in the Tweet and fills out the form. The promise is that you will get paid $50 for every person who fills out the form. Easy money! Yeah right.

Share

I just read a Craigslist job posting with this as the job. This is a joke, right?! What is a social media specialist? There is NO such thing as this. That’s like saying back in the day that I need a Vibe Chat Specialist or a Black Voices Chat Room specialist! What the hell. Anyone that’s been on the Internet for the last ten years knows there is no specialist in social media. In fact, why is it even called social media?

Social Media and Twitter Specialist Job

Social Media and Twitter Specialist Job

Twitter and Facebook both knows that the chatrooms were once popular and bangin. Black Planet, Black Voices, and the Vibe chat rooms were all social media rooms where people just sat around and talked smack all day while at work. They could never monetize these and pretty much all of them failed. So, to me, a Twitter specialist is someone that sits at their desk tweeting about the sun shine all day or talking about social events. Do you really need to be a specialist?

In fact, my true argument is that social media is only crazy popular due to the unemployment rate. If everyone was back at work circa 1999 there would be no Twitter in the form that it is today. They would exist but Twitter and Facebook would not be so popular because people would be at the job instead of at the house. With record numbers of people unemployed and getting their Comcast Cable TV shut off, why not log on to Twitter and talk all day? That’s what truly makes a social media expert.

So, here’s the qualifications as I see it: 1). unemployed. 2). unemployed with nothing to do. 3). watch TV and have the laptop in front of you so you can have ideas to Tweet about. 4). Link your Twitter to your Facebook so you don’t have to say it twice. 5). Watch all Reality shows and Tweet about them and gain followers. 6). Watch the news and ESPN and Tweet about everything the announcers say.

BAM! You are a social media specialist and expert. Now, how to get paid? This is the ever elusive question. People want to hire you to be a social media specialist but NOT pay you until someone clicks on the link in the Tweet and fills out the form. The promise is that you will get paid $50 for every person who fills out the form. Easy money! Yeah right.

SKECHERS

If you have 200 followers and you send out a Tweet you can expect roughly 2 people to click on it. You are fighting a number of factors happening on Twitter. Out of your 200 people at any given time, only 20 may even be online at the time of your tweet. Out of the 20 people that see your tweet, you will be extremely lucky if you get 2 of them to click on it and you will be super lucky if they fill out the form. What to do? Use Twitter to promote the mess out of your own company or just talk to your friends. If anything, set up yourself to make money and not give it to some other person who claims they will make you money. Brand YOU first while you’re on Twitter.

How To Become The Best

My friend Mike Pechina, an Olympic Judo Champion from San Bruno, California, always says “Repetition is the Mother of All Greatness”. Become the best is not an overnight thing. Becoming the best whatever you choose in your life has everything to do with constant action and effort. No one person has a lock on being the best. Mary J. Blige may be the best R&B singer. P. Diddy may be the best urban clothing designer. Why? How? Why is Lil Wayne the best rapper alive? How did they do it? How did they get there?

There is no secret to being the best. There is no magic wand. I knew Puffy when he had a black and white business card with a little baby boy on it. I met him at the Gavin Convention and he was just starting out. He just kept going at it. This is your key to becoming the best you. Find out your passion and then just stay at it until it starts to pay. The key is doing it until you start to see financial results. Unless you’re not in it for money. But, if you’re in it to make money, keep after it every single day.

Do not wait until some magical condition or some magical moment to start being the best you. I heard someone say that they were waiting until all things were perfect and until things started popping off to get going. This is ignorant. There is no thing to wait for. Websites are free now on WordPress. You don’t need a ton of money to get cracking. You need passion, energy, commitment, and work effort to become the best.

Aim high and shoot straight and keep doing your thing every single day. Even do it 7 times per day if you can. The key in being the best lies within you. Only you will determine how high and how far you can go. And remember, you can be down and behind in the count and still hit the ball out of the park.

Derrion Albert – Lessons Learned

The key to staying alive and protecting ya neck as a black kid is to know when to fight and know when to run. The key is knowing when to run and not letting pride and ego overcome you. Kids will never put down weapons in the ‘hood.

Share

When I was growing up in a rough neighborhood in Peoria, Illinois, the one thing we learned is to never go around a beefing crowd. The murder of the youngster Derrion Albert is very unfortunate. The one thing about crowds is that they get very hyped unnecessarily. I watched the video on Huffington Post, which I’ve decided to not post here, and he got cold clocked by someone who was literally standing right next to him.

Derrion Albert Killers caught on film

Derrion Albert Killers caught on film

In a crowd, you can’t tell your friends from your enemies. And sometimes you have frienemies around you in a hostile crowd. This is a sad state of affairs to see a young black child die in such a senseless manner. But my mother was right. Keep your kid away from the ‘hood if you want your kid to stay alive. The ‘hood is nothing but negativity and people wildin’ out. I pray for Derrion Alberts family in this difficult time but word to black youth: stay away from the crowd and when a fight breaks out, down run into the tornado; run away from it.

I know this is difficult especially when you see your friends caught up in the tornado but these crowds always get onlookers who you don’t know. In Oakland, I saw a huge riot one day near Castlemont High School. The crowd had built up a frenzy and you couldn’t tell which side which kids were on. I decided to NOT jump into the crowd and help because I couldn’t tell friend from foe. I encourage all black kids to stay out of the fray. When the crowd becomes an angry mob, head in the other direction even if you believe it’s braver to head into the storm.

The key to staying alive and protecting ya neck as a black kid is to know when to fight and know when to run. The key is knowing when to run and not letting pride and ego overcome you. Kids will never put down weapons in the ‘hood. It’s too dangerous and most people believe they need to protect themselves. So, I stayed alive by knowing how to stay away from the ‘hood and stay away from senseless mobs. Prayers to the Derrion Albert family and friends who have to deal with this.

How To Be Successful with Visualization

It matters that you consistently visualize the goal and it is imperative that you create action that matches the goal each and every day without fail. This is what will start to change your situation and bring your goal closer to you. You have the power to bring this to you.

Share

When I was a kid, we were low on money, cash flow, business entrepreneurship, and had no idea how to be successful. My mother raised us kids on food stamps and welfare as she didn’t have a job or the skills to even get a job. The great thing about life is that God gave me talent in sports and academia and this ended up guiding my entire life.

Visualize Your Success Everyday

Visualize Your Success Everyday

Friday nights were high school football in America game nights just like they are today. It was exciting. High school is such an exciting and challenging time for most kids but on Friday nights, everybody is excited. I lived and loved football. I loved practicing football. I loved quarterbacking. I loved getting better and I loved the fact that football took my mind off of other things at the house that may not have been so great.

I don’t know where I learned it from, but on Thursday nights when I went to bed, I would always visualize the game the next night. My coaches gave us the game plan and strategy each week on the team that we were about to play so I knew what offense we were running and what to exploit in the opponents defense. I was so excited about playing the next night that I could barely sleep.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozztKbU3Btk]
I would lie in bed visualizing the game and walking through plays in my head. I would visualize scoring and visualize play calling. I would visualize achieving success and always getting the ball into the end zone. I visualized winning every game. No book taught me this. No new found leader taught me this. I learned to listen to spirit and listen to God inside of my own head.

Today, you can be successful by visualizing what you are going to do each day the night before. You have the power to change your life around by visualizing yourself in your expected lifestyle. Once you visualize success, the mind will then begin to do something everyday to achieve that success and you will naturally be drawn to doing what you visualize. Every night, I visualize myself making $18,000 per month in passive income from writing and other business that I have. I never stop visualizing this. Because it is embedded as an image in my minds eye, I awake everyday doing actions to get me this income.

It doesn’t matter if you’re not to the goal yet. It matters that you consistently visualize the goal and it is imperative that you create action that matches the goal each and every day without fail. This is what will start to change your situation and bring your goal closer to you. You have the power to bring this to you.

FUBU and COOGI owner Daymond John on ABC's Shark Tank

Shark Tank is the truth. Everyone should watch it in America. It comes on at 9 PM EST on ABC and 9PM out on the West Coast as well.

Daymond John knows branding. I used to wear FUBU clothing all the time back in the day. At Lenox Square Mall in Atlanta and Stonecrest Mall in Lithonia, GA, I see COOGI all over the place on all young black kids. He is definitely visible and out there in the market. The thing I like about Daymond John is that he’s a great business man with the heart and passion to be an entrepreneur and give his knowledge back via his book “Display of Power”.

Daymond John's Display of Power Book

Daymond John's Display of Power Book

In Display of Power: How FUBU Changed a World of Fashion, Branding and Lifestyle, Daymond John (Founder and CEO) gets to the heart of his unlikely run to the top of the fashion world, and shines compelling light on what it takes to succeed-from the dizzying street corners of his old neighborhood to the dazzling corner offices of corporate America-and what it takes to harness and display the power that resides in us all.

Not only did I get his book but I also subscribe to his Power Journal where he provides a journal and tips on success. I mean, let’s get this straight: a young black brotha whose companies make over $300 million annually world wide with an office on the top floors of the Empire State Building! What? I can’t wait to interview this cat for my Beyond the Bling Radio show which I have personally booked him on. We are also developing some software for him as well.

Shark Tank is the truth. Everyone should watch it in America. It comes on at 9 PM EST on ABC and 9PM out on the West Coast as well on Sunday. It will be moving to Tuesdays in a couple of weeks. The other sharks are good too and I learn a lot from watching the show. These are some high powered cats that you can really learn from. I love the elevator pitch style as that’s how I basically learned to pitch my company in the Silicon Valley in front of venture capitalists on Sand Hill Road in Palo Alto. It’s not easy and definitely nerve racking but it’s worth it if you have a solid business idea, make money, and can show an investor a potential large market or the fact that you serve a niche market very well.
