What To Do With $5 Million Now

“hmm….how do I make this money last if I stopped working by age 25 and lived until I was 95.”

It’s funny because in my book, “How To Be Rich, Nigga” I talk about what NOT to do with money but I decided I also need to talk about what to do with the money. The one thing I realize about money and athletics is that most people will outlive their money or any type of bonus money that you get.

That could be $5,000,000 or that could be $50,000. The key is to realize that in almost all cases, despite what the news says, you WILL live and outlive any type of big money bonuses you get. So, when you do get the opportunity for big money, you need a mentality shift. Most black athletes have the mentality to spend it all now because you may not see this ever again or that you’ll keep getting money.

Shift the mentality and say to yourself “hmm….how do I make this money last if I stopped working by age 25 and lived until I was 95.” Look at your money from that angle and let that guide your decision making process.

What To Write In A Message In A Bottle

If you’re standing on a beach looking out over the ocean or a body of water, ask yourself…

Gerard Spinks; digging deeper

Gerard Spinks encourages you to dig deeper

I know you’ve all heard this Police record “Message In A Bottle” on an album called “Regatta de Blanc”. If you haven’t, go take a listen. If you’re standing on a beach looking out over the ocean or a body of water, ask yourself, “What would I write and what would I say in a message to put in a bottle?”

I would start by thinking of the person who will intercept your bottle, find it and read it. Think about what shore they may be on and think about your message going to a complete stranger. What do you want to tell them about you. What should they know that is pertinent about you today? What if the message reaches them and you’re 25 years old today and they get it when you’re 32?

This is how you should look at launching your business. The message will get to the recipient but tell them what you want them to know about you not only now but in 7 years. Tell them who you are, what your dreams are, why you wrote the letter to them, and what you hope to accomplish by writing the letter to them.

If you seek money, fame, and fortune, tell them that in the letter. If you seek a great job doing what you love, tell them what you love. If you seek stronger family ties and connections with your mother, sisters, and brother, tell them that in the message in a bottle. Tell the world what it is you seek and put it in the bottle and let hope float!

The War Of Technology People Vs. Business People

I subscribe to several venture capitalists websites and blogs and one in particular stood out for me this past week. I read VentureLevel’s blog where VC Romil Patel was talking about the wide gap and lack of trust that he potentially has in business folks compared to technology people.

What caught my attention was the value that he placed on the engineering people in pitching and creating ideas. As an engineer and technology company, I would have to agree. It’s the developers who know the technology and who will prosper in the future economy when it rebuilds. If you are a business person only and have no knowledge of technology, it would be best to understand the technology before going after money.

Where I disagree with Mr. Patel, is in that business people can hire the right technologist to get to where the company needs to be in terms of product development and funding. But for all intents and purposes, I do believe that our future lies in building technology based companies and products for the future. If you build a product that someone needs and it fulfills a specific niche, you will do well in the future.

The 5 Keys To The Entrepreneurship Car

create a sales goal and/or goal of your website sales

Share

Step 1 is to determine what it is you’re selling to people and how. Are you going to manufacture your own products or sell something that someone else manufacturers. Do you have a website? This is a must. You must have a web presence and a telephone to list on the website. You must then decide what type of audience you wish to build online and offline. How will you reach this audience? Email? Direct mail? Facebook? Google Ads? You must reach potential buyers each day to be a success. Your buyers need to be qualified and closely match the type of buyers who are looking for what it is you’re selling.

Step 2 is to create a sales goal and/or goal of your website sales. This helps you know what you’re aiming for and how much you need to sell to breakeven and/or make a profit. Not everything can be sold over the Internet. So, some marketing may be done over the Internet in order to push customers to your actual location. You still need a website so that people can find you online which will then translate into offline.

Step 3 is to create a marketing plan and hopefully have a budget to reach potential new customers. Some businesses do not do well because they cannot reach customers. This must become of paramount importance to you and your business.

Step 4 is to convert all of the people you reach in your marketing into paying/buying customers. Businesses are NOT successful if they do not make money at some point. Sell your stuff. Bottomline. You must sell. You might give away some things but do not make a business out of providing free work for people. You will never make it and you should turn your business into a charity event if that’s what your real mission is.

Step 5 is to rinse and repeat and keep selling three times or more per week.

Think Outside The Box

If you keep doing the same thing over and over and it’s not working, don’t get mad

Thinking outside of the box is an overused phrase. I wanted to put some framework around this phrase to make it more tangible and measurable. When the economy turned on its head, I hear many pundits using this term in academic circles, corporate circles, political circles, and athletic circles. Let’s quantify “thinking outside the box”. I’d like to first define this phrase. To think outside the box means to create new thinking, new ideas, and new action.

If 2008-2009 were tough for you and you were unemployed and/or underemployed, it’s time to think new thoughts and take new actions, thereby thinking outside the box. But it’s not just about thinking. It starts with thought which then must be translated into action. For example, if you were a real estate agent in ’08 and ’09 and it was nearly impossible to sell a home for one of your clients, it’s time to think of something new. But this has to be realistic and within the realm of your possibility. I wouldn’t suggest becoming a doctor or a nurse because that would take years. It’s achievable but it’s not going to be an overnight thing.

In that scenario, thinking outside of the box could include re-doing your entire website and turning it into a blog of helpful tips for homeowners or people wanting to decorate their home on a shoestring budget. Re-design your website to be a tips based site that provides weekly decorating tips. If you know a community that you wish to market to, create direct mail postcards for the condo tower that has over 100 residents and target those owners specifically with your postcard that has your new blogsite of home decorating tips on a budget.

This is just meant to show you where to start thinking outside the box and achieving results. If you keep doing the same thing over and over and it’s not working, don’t get mad, get started doing something realistic to change your situation. Think outside of the box.

A resounding Hell NO! I say spend 3 hours at most looking for a job if you’re unemployed. The rest of the time, I would focus on building my own business and my own website for the business. It’s 2010, get online and market your own stuff. Can you imagine waiting the whole entire year on a job. What if it takes you 12 more months to find work?

No way in hell will it help you to stay on the computer all day looking for a job for the next year. Immediately, get a site up and running and start putting your products on it. If you have services, put those on it too. Build your business and do not sit around just looking for a job. That has got to be the most depressing thing on the planet earth to do right now.

Believe in yourself. It’s the future.

How To Be Rich, Nicca – Creating Wealth

All wealth builders are creators and owners.

How To Be Rich, Nigga by Gerard D. Spinks

All wealth builders are creators and owners. They are not employees and non creative types. Also, all wealth builders have learned to create something and sell it to a lot of people. People and myself made a lot of money in technology not because people needed a great Internet site but because the perception was that the customer would want it and could not live without it. These wealth builders sold people what they wanted not what they needed.

To do this, I recommend finding a niche to fill, create products or services and sell it to people for a fair value. Sam Walton of Wal-Mart knew to do this and demanded to sell things to consumers for a great price. He built a family of billionaires in his spouse children, and grand children.

Step one in the creation process is identifying an idea no matter how crazy you think it sounds to yourself and your family, and starting a company. Everyone should always do some sort of business and not rely solely on your income from your job. Get your business name on file, get a fictitious business name filed in the county where you live, incorporate your business as an S or C corporation, or start your business as a Limited Liability Company in the state in which you reside.

If you just graduated from college and are looking for a job, start a business to sell something to someone. The trick to creating wealth is that you need to sell something to a defined core or niche audience. You don’t need a ton of people but you just need to satisfy a defined niche that you serve. You may be good at sewing clothes, making records, or fixing cars. Find out what it is you know how to do and are good at and package it up as a service or product and learn to market and promote it.

How To Be Rich, Nicca – Dodging Bullets & Obstacles

There will be many obstacles along your path to achieving your dream. It’s not about negativity but this is just the real part of life. It will not just be people that will try to stop your dream but conditions completely out of your control that will stop your dream. You must learn to not let any conditions stop us from working our plan and pushing towards our true dream. These bullets as I call them are just momentary setbacks regardless of how tough they actually seem.

I went through a relationship breakup, an eviction, a loss of corporate contracts, company outsourcing, and many other crazy events including the bombing of the New York Trade Centers that nearly stopped me from achieving my dreams and yet I kept plugging away at it until I was able to make it. Even though all kinds of things seem messed up, I wrote down the goal and wrote down the plan to achieve that goal. I then have to execute on this plan regardless of any of this messed up stuff that’s happening on the planet right now including the BP oil spill offshore in Louisiana. I will not stop until I reach this dream nor should you.

Making Sanity Out of An Insane World

Yes, we are still steeped in a recession and it is mid 2010. Yes, I still see all the reports that real estate is low and people still cannot find decent jobs and contracts. I experience the same stuff that everyone else does, trust and know this. I came back to Atlanta to be with my daughter and most importantly ink a couple of lucrative contracts with major corporations in Atlanta. Guess what? All three of them fell through when they looked so promising when I was sitting in my living room in the San Francisco Bay Area.

I could sit here and tell you how tough it is, how rough that was for me financially, and how pissed off I am. As a leader and child of God, I cannot do this. I must look at the bright side in an insane world. In fact, what if the world is not insane at all and this recession is all a normal and regular part of the earth’s movement? On the converse/flip side, I had 3 really great high powered meetings and appointments that could ultimately prove very financially lucrative to my company’s in the future. I’m glad I met everyone and glad I was able to pitch to them. I’m thankful for the opportunity to do so. Was it disappointing? No doubt. Was it rejuvenating? No doubt. Was it meaningful and a symbol on the path to my personal prosperity? No doubt.

In order to make sense of this world that has become rather tough to operate in, we must look at the bright side and the flip side of the coin. It is getting better everyday in every way. We are alive right now in order for us to do something great with our lives. Keep it moving. Have a prosperous week and year!

Market Survival Book

Wanted to introduce my fans to author Gerard Spinks. I am a writer and publisher of all of my book titles. I have written three seminal writings “How To Be Rich, Nicca”, “The Ballers Guide to Major Figure$”, and “The Poor Mans Guide to the Rich Mans World”.

All of my titles are self-help books designed for the urban entrepreneur. My books are designed for the inner city, urban person who is very entrepreneurial and needs to know exactly how to bootstrap their business and make money out of very hard conditions and situations.

Why are these books focused on the inner city?  I grew up in the inner city.  I grew up with just my mother and my siblings.  I grew up on food stamps and welfare checks.  I became a millionaire without all of the things that everyone said that I needed as a kid.  I did NOT do this with a strong father figure and with a trust fund.  I made money from super hard work, a super belief in God, a super MOTHER, and a super EFFORT to succeed.

I learned how to put the right people around me to get to my goals.  I learned how to goal set and actualize those goals with the help of God.  I am NOW giving that back to the inner city and all of my fans.  I came from NO MONEY, made a lot of money in the Silicon Valley as a software developer of XML software, lost a lot of money when the market tanked, and climbed back up the hill to make money again and still building.
