Success secrets learned from New York Yankees Joe Girardi

Growing up in Peoria, Illinois, I played quarterback in high school behind New York Yankee skipper Joe Girardi and learned some of life’s greatest business lessons as a kid. I don’t know if it was fate or not but even our names were similar: Joe Girardi and Gerard Spinks.

Both of us went to high school in Peoria, Illinois at The Academy of Our Lady/Spalding Institute, a private catholic high school in downtown Peoria. I grew up in a single mother household, Joe Girardi grew up across the Illinois River in East Peoria, Illinois. I had heard a lot about Joe Girardi in baseball because he excelled in little league and was considered one of the best catchers in the little league circuit in the Peoria area.

I met Joe Girardi my freshman year of high school when being a quarterback was nothing but a dream and a wish. I had already watched him play his freshman football year and watched him play baseball at Bradley Park which I would walk to with my big brother, Jeronimo Spinx. What struck me about this kid was that he was very smart and extremely nice. He was strong as an ox, open minded, and willing to help me learn everything about sports. I met him during summer conditioning down at the high school where our coaches ran us and got us into top football condition to prepare for the upcoming football season.

Read the rest of my Joe Girardi story from my Examiner column.

Market Survival Book

Market Survival Book

Wanted to introduce my fans to author Gerard Spinks. I am a writer and publisher of all of my book titles. I have written three seminal writings “How To Be Rich, Nicca”, “The Ballers Guide to Major Figure$”, and “The Poor Mans Guide to the Rich Mans World”.

All of my titles are self-help books designed for the urban entrepreneur. My books are designed for the inner city, urban person who is very entrepreneurial and needs to know exactly how to bootstrap their business and make money out of very hard conditions and situations.

Why are these books focused on the inner city?  I grew up in the inner city.  I grew up with just my mother and my siblings.  I grew up on food stamps and welfare checks.  I became a millionaire without all of the things that everyone said that I needed as a kid.  I did NOT do this with a strong father figure and with a trust fund.  I made money from super hard work, a super belief in God, a super MOTHER, and a super EFFORT to succeed.

I learned how to put the right people around me to get to my goals.  I learned how to goal set and actualize those goals with the help of God.  I am NOW giving that back to the inner city and all of my fans.  I came from NO MONEY, made a lot of money in the Silicon Valley as a software developer of XML software, lost a lot of money when the market tanked, and climbed back up the hill to make money again and still building.

Brett Favre Teaches Us To Keep Believing

Brett Favre has done a wonderful thing for America. He epitomizes success, comebacks and working through adversity when no one believes in you anymore. I love this story of triumph because Brett proved that you can defy age or any negative thing that humans put on you.

People always typically can only see what is in front of them. Most humans can never see what’s inside your heart. Favre proves that with true heart you can do anything and achieve anything within reason. You just have to know your own limits, your own capabilities, your own strengths, and most importantly, your own weaknesses. This is what we should all learn from Brett Favre in this victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Yes, he can still play. Yes, he could do it again. No, he doesn’t live up to any one else’s limits placed upon him. Neither do I. Neither should you.

Chiefs Running Back Larry Johnson Suspended for Tweets

Proving that social media networks can get you fired if you don’t watch what you say, the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs running back, Larry Johnson, has been suspended by the team for tweeting gay slurs and negative comments about his coaching staff. Proving that social media networks can get you fired if you don’t watch what you say, the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs running back, Larry Johnson, has been suspended by the team for tweeting gay slurs and negative comments about his coaching staff. For some strange reason that I cannot understand, people mistakenly believe that Twitter is somehow a closed network and that they are sharing information privately between friends. Epic fail.

What’s the lesson? Stop sharing stuff that would make your employers embarrassed, angry, and get you a one way ticket to the unemployment line. Twitter and Facebook are NOT private networks and you are speaking in a public place. Please start believing it.

NFL Football Business

The best coaches and quarterbacks know that you never look at a football field as 100 yards. Football is about incremental progress and steps. OU QB Sam Bradford ReInjures His Throwing Shoulder

In today’s game against Texas, Oklahoma University Sooner Quarterback, Sam Bradford, injured his throwing shoulder once again. He will have it checked out to determine the extent of the injury and if it hinders his play next week. I hope he’s healthy. The Denver Broncos Worst ThrowBack Uniform of All Time

Denver Broncos Worst throwback jersey of all time.

This has got to be the worst throwback uniform of all time. I guarantee that no one at all will be rushing out to buy these throwbacks. After all, the only real reason the NFL dons the throwbacks is to increase sales due to trending of the throwback jersey. This one will never make it.

The JaMarcus Russell Strategy Guide

How JaMarcus Russell Can Improve

Share

After watching JaMarcus Russell continually struggle, I had to throw my hat into the ring as a former quarterback and quarterback coach for Elite High School quarterbacks for Nike Sparq. When JaMarcus came into the league two years ago, he was highly touted because of his arm strength and his size. 6’6 big dude, cannon arm. He could sit down and throw the ball 50 yards.

JaMarcus Russell Guide to Improve

JaMarcus Russell Guide to Improve

This perceived strength is the problem. Tom Cable and the Offensive Coordinator believes that the passing game is a vertical passing game due to JaMarcus’ arm strength and this is the problem. He is not ready for the vertical passing game even though his arm is strong. Immediately, the offensive strategy needs to be changed to a West Coast offensive style horizontal passing game.

JaMarcus Russell needs to throw the ball to the sidelines into the flats. They need to take incremental steps and utilize short slants, curls, hooks, and flat routes. He needs to build his confidence up by working short passing patterns and not long passes. I even feel as though he has lost the confidence of the team and you can tell by their play and performance.

The Oakland Raiders need to change immediately and change the offense to cater to JaMarcus’ real strength. It first appeared as though his strength was size and arm strength. This is not his true football strength. It’s painfully obvious.
