Did you know that there are people in the United States who cannot read or write in 2009? I know it sounds crazy and ridiculous and most people want to blame the person who is illiterate for not being motivated, but it’s real.
My mother was functionally illiterate and could not read or write. My brother served as her reader and my sister was her writer. Because of this, she became a beast on us as far as education goes. I have always spoken extremely proper and anunciate everything with perfection.
We need to reach out and help those people in our United States of America who cannot read or struggle with writing. They are brushed underneath society’s doormat and are ashamed of themselves. They typically blame themselves and when they walk into a store, they cannot pick up a bottle of Tylenol and understand what it says.
Can you imagine the frustration level? I personally am spending 2010 helping a kid read and knocking out illiteracy. Help where you can with what you have. Help starts by not overlooking these people.
