Six Months In A Leaking Boat?

To blame your family and friends for their misfortune means you’re a pure idiot.

Money, Power, Good Health by Gerard Spinks

I see people talking real GIGANTIC on Twitter about how they are mad because they had to help someone with cash, or help a friend in need, or how they went and spent a ton of money on some Patron at a club in Atlanta or LA. The funny thing is that most people talk from a position of strength until their own boat starts leaking and has a small hole in it that turns into a big hole.

Most of us feel coochy crunch with our jobs and income and don’t sweat it until we are confronted with a sudden layoff, downsizing, jobs moved to India, or just plain out of work and realize that you can’t get on unemployment for whatever reason. It’s so easy to roll tough when you have a job or income and start bashing everyone who doesn’t because they asked you for $20. Rule 1: Shut the hell up! Rule 2: can you survive in the middle of the ocean for six months with a leaking boat? In other words, if you got laid off right now, today, and due to some glitch in the matrix you cannot get unemployment, can you survive and pay all of your overhead for six straight months until hopefully you get a job?

Come on big talker! I’m talking to you now. You have now become the person that you were just complaining about. But, there’s a real NOT perceived solution to this. It used to be prudent to save 3 months worth of your overhead in a Fidelity Investments Money Market Account. Not anymore. I have personal friends who have been laid off from American super corporations and haven’t had a job in 16 months. They tried everything and went through 3 cycles of unemployment. So, when you have the job, keep expenses low and stack chips like the end of the world is near.

If you’re total monthly expenses are $2,000, you need to do whatever it takes to save at least $12,000 to survive for 6 months during the time the boat is leaking. If you can’t save money, you need to do whatever it takes to reduce your expenses to save. America is NOT out in the clear yet. To blame your family and friends for their misfortune means you’re a pure idiot. It just might happen to you. Save your money and idiot proof your own self.

The Success Formula

It takes one persons dream + a mountain of ambition + a heap of action and you can make something happen for yourself.

It takes one persons dream + a mountain of ambition + a heap of action and you can make something happen for yourself. You don’t need a ton of people or a great family upbringing to be successful. You need yourself, faith, ambition, talent, and action every single day to be the success that you seek. You must have vision and belief in order to even get started. Visualize where you want to be and then put together a plan to make it happen. It may take a few years so you also need hope, prayer, and a lot of patience mixed in with this to truly see it through.

At all costs, you should NEVER give up. I recently spoke to a family member who at 40 years of age decided he was too old to keep pushing and grinding because he has a family now. This is nonsense. If you believe in YOU, you will pursue your dream regardless of any obstacle. Keep it moving!

What I Learned From The Black Guerilla Family In Oakland California

Don’t ever say you can’t learn anything from a fool or prisoner. The Black Guerilla Family was started in 1966 by Mr. George Jackson to protect black prisoners. While some prisoners have committed heinous crimes of an unspeakable nature, you can learn serious business tips from them.

Don’t ever say you can’t learn anything from a fool or prisoner. The Black Guerilla Family was started in 1966 by Mr. George Jackson to protect black prisoners. While some prisoners have committed heinous crimes of an unspeakable nature, you can learn serious business tips from them.

Mr. Jackson first created a logo and a symbol of his team and organization. He created a clear mission statement: “eradicate racism, struggle to maintain dignity in prison, and overthrow the United States government”. Yes, the last part is crazy and delusional but do not miss the business value in what he did.

He organized his mission and then began to organize his team and mobilize his forces. He wrote down his clear mission statement so that it would be easier to share amongst his team and recruits. He was passionate even at a time of great pressure, anger, frustration, mental jail, and physical lock down. He was desperate and depressed. Through his desperation, he fought through it to organize himself and have a clear direction and clear strategy. Even in prison he wrote a business plan, worked the plan, tweaked the plan, and recruited a loyal following without any money at all.

The Black Guerilla Family is one of the strongest prison gangs in America. If you are in prison and you are an African American male, you would want to be a part of the team or suffer the consequences. This is the same in this economy and recession. You must do one of two things: either develop a strong team witih a clear mission statement and recruit loyal members, or become a part of a strong team with a clear mission statement and strong members.

Your gang will help you navigate through turbulent waters and tumultuous times. It will help you through difficulty and pain when you don’t know where to turn. This is what the BGF stands and stood for. You cannot sit on an island not knowing what to do. Just as in prison, you will get shanked, killed, and will not last long at all without being on a strong team and being an asset to that team. Disclaimer: I am not advocating that you jump into a prison gang and start gangbanging. I speak to prisoners to help reform them and teach that they must do similar to what they did inside the prison walls but legitimately.

Find a strong team member or mentor just like a gang leader. The gang leader should have a mission and a plan to mobilize and get moving. Listen and learn and grow but most importantly, do not be isolated and not speaking to your La Familia. Just as a true gang does, they listen to the persons problems. You always have a trusted soldier on your team and true successful gangs are extremely loyal. They do not flip and turn on their gang. If they do, a death oath is imminent. Business is not that serious but find a mentor and find a new team to learn and grow from. This is paramount to your success and your personal success.

How To Make A Plan To Succeed

It’s now time to do it. Open up a Microsoft Word document. If you don’t have Word, grab a tablet. Write down your overall goal. Name it. Now, spend the next 2-3 days writing down steps that you are going to take to achieve this plan.

Believe in Yourself

Planning for success and wealth starts with creating a one-page document that details how you will get to the goal and achieve the goal that you have. Generating any type of wealth is about planning and executing, rinse and repeat. You must create the plan and then execute on the plan until the actual end result is achieved. You cannot stop until your desired end result is accomplished. If you stop, no one else will help you achieve and reach this goal. It’s your goal. No one else will feel compelled to push your dream and goal beside you.

There will be many obstacles along your path to achieving your dream. It’s not about negativity but this is just the real part of life. People can’t help but to not believe in your dream because they can’t believe in their own dream. It will not only be people that will try to stop your dream but there will also be conditions beyond your control that will stop your dream such as the current great depression.

We must learn to not let any conditions stop us from working our dream and our plan. These are momentary setbacks regardless of how tough they are. Put the setback into perspective and lay low for a little while until you can pick your dream back up. Don’t abandon it. Just put it on the back burner for a minute. When things improve, pick it back up and keep going.

I have been through a relationship breakup, an eviction, a loss of corporate contracts, having a trusted source let me go from a position where I was doing a great job at, company outsourcing, and many other events including the tragedy of September 11, 2001 in New York. These events made me want to stop pursuing my dream but I kept plugging away at it until I was able to achieve it. Even though all kinds of things may seem messed up, I’ve written down the goal and the plan. I have to execute the plan regardless of all this messed up stuff that is happening on the planet and this huge recession that our economy is underneath. We cannot stop until we reach our dreams.

It’s now time to do it. Open up a Microsoft Word document. If you don’t have Word, grab a tablet. Write down your overall goal. Name it. Now, spend the next 2-3 days writing down steps that you are going to take to achieve this plan. Be easy and don’t make a plan that is unrealistic. Make it achievable and write it so that you can reach it without needing someone else to help you right away.

Your Best Not Good Enough?

If your best isn’t quite good enough for your boss or someone in your family, I seriously suggest you start to do for yourself. You see, you’ll never quite measure up to someone else’s standards of you. However, you will measure up to standards that you create for yourself provided they are realistic.

And the best thing about it is that you can critique yourself and not hear someone else’s critique of you. Start your own project, be your own boss, dance to the beat of your own drum. Only then will you know and appreciate true freedom.

I Can’t Win For Losing!

Not sure what this means but my mother used to say it sometimes during highly stressful situations. I believe that it means she felt like she was stuck in a rut and is having a difficult time winning in life. Ok. I can feel that. It’s time to change the mentals. How about this: I can’t lose for winning!

Time to switch up the game by switching up the thoughts, words, and actions that we partake in each and every day. I can’t and won’t lose because winning is all I think about and perceive of myself. There ya go. Tag, you’re it!

No Money Mo Problems

You’re going to have to work hard to create your own income this year. Accept this. Believe this. Get moving towards it today. I know it’s harsh and I know it hurts but this is real.

Share

Well, Diddy didn’t actually say that. He said “Mo Money, Mo Problems”. I think he was wrong and so does the rest of the country! It’s actually the reverse. When you don’t have any money, your problems become even greater by the day. So, the task of the year is to make MO MONEY so that you can increase YOUR PROBLEMS = INCOME! But how? It is time to go for self and create your own opportunity. Waiting on the Government is pointless whether that’s Federal, State, or a local Government to help bail anyone out of anything.

You’re going to have to work hard to create your own income this year. Accept this. Believe this. Get moving towards it today. I know it’s harsh and I know it hurts but this is real. This is not a joke. Your only chance at survival is you. What does this mean exactly and why does it sound so harsh? It means that you must wake up each day and develop your own business or tools to sell to somebody. Whatever it is, monetize it, be very good at it, and sell it to somebody as a service or as a product if you can create it.

Take this seriously because it is a warning of truth. Jobs are scarce or to take a job you’ll have to relocate your entire life to some city or state that you never planned to be in. You must mobilize yourself and your personal troops now so that you can become stabilized and make money where you live.

You Are What You Say You Are

People always wonder why I call myself the Underground Millionaire. They always want to know if I have one million dollars in cash sitting at my home. I say this and I mean it: you are exactly who you say you are and act as you are. In other words, if you say you’re a millionaire but your actions are those of a criminal, you will never ever be a millionaire. Not for long any way.

If you say you are the best writer in the world, and put forth action to be the best writer in the world, you will become the best writer in the world. You must act with conviction and your action must match your intention.

You cannot intend to be something and act completely opposite of your intention and hope to succeed. Many people fail with that simple sentence and fact alone. You must not only say it and claim it. You must act it out every single day in order to achieve your dreams. Keep pushing and driving and you will make it.

Bring Out Your Dead for 2009

Bring out your dead is about moving way past a job and building the new you which is about building your own company and your customers.

This was a phrase in Monty Python’s movie “In Search Of The Holy Grail” and it was funny as ever. But, 2010 is truly about change and the dead is the jobs in the U.S.A. Bring out your dead is about moving way past a job and building the new you which is about building your own company and your customers.

This is NOT a New Year’s Resolution. This is a 3 year economic plan designed to power you and start generating business and not waste another week applying for jobs hoping to land something in America. It’s not going to happen that quickly. But what can happen, is you building your own business over the next 3 years to a burgeoning empire even if that empire generates $3,500 per month in solid income. God speed to you!

Growing up in Peoria, Illinois, I played quarterback in high school behind New York Yankee skipper Joe Girardi and learned some of life’s greatest business lessons as a kid. I don’t know if it was fate or not but even our names were similar: Joe Girardi and Gerard Spinks.

Both of us went to high school in Peoria, Illinois at The Academy of Our Lady/Spalding Institute, a private catholic high school in downtown Peoria. I grew up in a single mother household, Joe Girardi grew up across the Illinois River in East Peoria, Illinois. I had heard a lot about Joe Girardi in baseball because he excelled in little league and was considered one of the best catchers in the little league circuit in the Peoria area.

I met Joe Girardi my freshman year of high school when being a quarterback was nothing but a dream and a wish. I had already watched him play his freshman football year and watched him play baseball at Bradley Park which I would walk to with my big brother, Jeronimo Spinx. What struck me about this kid was that he was very smart and extremely nice. He was strong as an ox, open minded, and willing to help me learn everything about sports. I met him during summer conditioning down at the high school where our coaches ran us and got us into top football condition to prepare for the upcoming football season.

Playing quarterback was awkward at my high school where 98% of the student body was white. My family and I were some of a handful of black kids that went to the school and even the coaches were really against having a black quarterback. Joe Girardi was different. He was hard working. He was meticulous in his approach. His parents instilled both academics as the focal point and sports as the secondary mission in his life. He put God first and exemplified that in his young life. The summer leading into my sophomore year, Joe asked me what my goals were. I said that I wanted to become a starter on the sophomore team and play varsity football as a sophomore and one day beat him out as a starter.

As a black kid, seeing a leader work extremely hard, play hard, and strive for the top colleges thoroughly changed my life and let me into the secret of business. Joe Girardi taught me to throw the football 500 times per day with no excuses. The secret was in the work. Work hard and confidence would naturally come. Refine your craft every single day without fail. When discouragement comes and people talk about you, keep your head down and keep working hard. Most importantly, he never focused on money. He focused on being the best he could be.

Joe Girardi taught me balance and excellence even at a young age before anyone knew what he would become. He taught me leadership is in what you do not what you say. He taught me business excellence lies in doing something everyday until you become an expert at it and block everyone else out. He taught me that business success lies in your ability to play ball literally and metaphorically.
