I saw a posting on CNN about sex selling and I don’t think it does anymore as much as porn used to sell. People have less discretionary income so they are not registering and signing up for monthly porn sites the way people did in a great economy. I think online sex is down in sales and is impacted the way all other entertainment industries are impacted heavily.
I think just like The NFL or MLB, those entertainment firms with great brands will always sell because they have long standing brands. Brands such as Playboy, Hustler, Penthouse, etc. These brands have been around for a long time and make money from publishing and print advertising. The online portion was never their core focus. Most porn sites now are free and are fighting with how to monetize themselves as we speak or as you read this.
Again, it all goes back to what Spinks Industries discusses on my professional site, building core customers and web site visitors who want to pay. This is much easier said than done but can be done with niche marketing development.
